The claims that Fly Fur is longer, has more overfur, and very little underfur are true. I was skeptical because other products are often touted with similar claims. This craftfur product is much easier to tie with (less messy fuzz, consistent cuts, way less waste) and will be replacing other brands of craft fur on my bench. Though I will say that other brands of craft fur are a bit more supple and softer than Fly Fur (I'm being incredibly picky as the difference is subtle). That said, Fly Fur still swims, puffs, breathes, wiggles, etc. as you would expect. Each fiber is tapered and it thus ties in to create realistic bait fish profiles. I bought 4 different colors, and each were very consistent, with one exception: the barred black and white Fly Fur. The barred black and white Fly Fur has shorter, more dense fibers, which are also softer and more supple. In fact, I'd go as far as saying this color, at least the patch I received, is a different product. This isn't a negative, though, as the barred black and white Fly Fur swims so much like marabou - it's awesome! But it is different. I'm not sure if the patch I received is an anomaly (if so, yay for me! I dig it), or whether this color all together is different. I could imagine 2 product lines -- Fly Fur Regular and Fly Fur Super Soft. Great product and quick service. I will be buying more!
Matthew, Thank you for your review! The White Barred Black Fly Fur does indeed have a softer backing. It is a different product for sure than the other colors-softer backing, softer fibers, etc. The patch you received is consistent with the entire batch. Glad you like it! Fair Flies
I absolutely love this material! I love the length, the variety of colors, and the durability of this material and I am able to use less material rather than Craft fur.
