I reeled in my line, and to my horror, my hook was bent a good 30 degrees. My hook had failed me. Everything else, from the idea to fish this spot, to my drift, to my hook set, and finally my tippet and rod selection were perfect, but I had neglected the most important element of the entire pursuit.
