Dennis is our Ambassador Team Leader. His friendships and global network make our Ambassador team what it is today. He manages our amazing group of ambassadors and never ceases to find great fly tyers all over the globe.
Dennis runs The Fly Box where you can find all kinds of great content, from fly recipes to fish stories to beautiful photography.
Dennis started fly fishing in his late 20s and quickly developed an addiction, enveloping himself completely into the sport. He enjoys paddling in the wilds of British Columbia when not tying on his Regal vise. He casts in local waters for salmon, trout, and bass. He travels the world to pursue bonefish and giant trevally.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, tying flies didn’t come naturally to him. When he was first introduced to it through a local fly shop, he took the fundamentals course several times from several different teachers inside of two years before he ‘got it’. Only after 3 years of practicing and tying all sorts of flies did he deem his fly work ready for the public.
Today he’s a professional custom tyer based in Vancouver, BC. He’s been commercially tying and doing custom flies for more than 25 years, teaching fundamentals & advanced fly-tying classes for over 20 years. He has been featured several times in BC Outdoors Magazine, published work in SWING the FLY MAGAZINE and featured in Toni Lolli’s Book “The Art of the Fishing Fly” (2018).
His home-based business… The Fly Box …produces well over 55,000 flies per year. His blog/online website sells flies all over the world and he is the Indie Author of his upcoming Book " The Commercial Tyer "-Trade Secrets Revealed through Tellwell Publishing.
His specialty has become custom saltwater flies, but he ties everything from tiny trout flies, steelhead patterns, and large warm water salt patterns! He is on the Stealth Fly Fishing PRO-Staff Team. His creativity and design earned him a spot on the Jerkbaitmania Commercial Tyers Program and PRO-Team. A Lagartun PRO-Staff Team Leader and a member of the Partridge PRO-Team with Partridge of Redditch to represent the West Coast of Canada. Currently part of the Flymen Fishing Company CFT Program and a PRO-Tyer for The Canadian Llama Company.
There’s probably nothing I won’t try or redress a different way. Each year I seem to add more to my growing collection of fly patterns to customize & commercially tie, but hey you know what they say… “Do what you love… love what you do…!”
